PHOENIX — The Hawks came back to win in Phoenix, sweeping their four-game West Coast road trip. The Hawks extend their win streak to five games. They currently sit fourth in the East, with a 9-5 record.
All-Star Point Guard Trae Young has been absent since October 29th due to a sprained MCL injury in his right knee after he collided with teammate Mouhamed Gueye. Multiple Hawks have stepped up their game to fill in Trae’s production in the offense—Onyeka Okonhwu, Nickeil Alexander, Vít Krejčí, and most notably Jalen Johnson.
Jalen Johnson has been the primary offensive engine. Johnson is averaging 23.4 points, 11 rebounds, 8.2 assists, and 2.2 steals on a 70% actual shooting percentage.
“I can’t say enough about Jalen [Johnson] and Onyeka [Okongwu],” Snyder said. “We needed them and they really came through.”
Snyder urged Onyeka to shoot more three-pointers. Onyeka has begun to shoot them at a more frequent clip. Okongwu has made 75 three-pointers in his first five years, and in this year alone, he has already made 24.
